The Pre-1998 Music Videos Page

Here are some great old-school MVs, prior to when I started taking more interest in new music, back in 1998.

ABBA
Ring, Ring
1973
It’s hard to go wrong with ABBA, and this is one of their catchiest tunes which will really get jammed into your noggin. The music video is great, and it feels like there are no gimmicks like you’d see today. No annoying overlayed effects or any computer generated 3D graphics. Although back in 1973 that probably wasn’t too common anyway. The outifts are pretty eye-popping though! And while it’s about ’phones, thank fig it isn’t about mobile ’phones. Mobile ’phones were probably pretty large back then too. Apparently Elvis had one that was about the size of a briefcase. Ooh! And how about Björn’s starry looking guitar? I don’t think I’ve seen one like that anywhere else.
ABBA
Mamma Mia
1975
Ah! ABBA’s famous side on & front on face views thing in this one. I remember Steps taking this off for Last Thing On My Mind. I often think of The Adventures Of Priscilla: Queen Of The Desert when I hear Mamma Mia too.
ABBA
I Do, I Do, I Do, I Do, I Do
1975
This is a great one, and I’d say I like it more than Mamma Mia. This time the chaps play some saxaphones in the video as well.
ABBA
Dancing Queen
1976
Another ABBA classic! Maybe not my absolute favourite though. I wrote a bit of a parody to this tune as well.
Some interestingly coloured outfits again, but not as extreme as Ring, Ring.
