The Year 12 School Retreat

Back in high school, we used to have these yearly retreats that went for 3 days. We’d all go to some distant location and stay over 2 nights in some dodgy joint that barely resembled a 1 star motel. There’d be about 4 kids to a room, and no doubt snoring would be involved. Anyway, I was never fond of these events. The year 10 one was mostly the friends in my room playing some dreadful heavy metal cr*p and the teachers going up in the bush to get drunk. I managed to skip the one in year 9 when I had a cold, and in year 12, (which was 1998,) I was determined not to go at all, no matter what. I really didn’t want to go through any more. Our year advisor tried to convince me to change my mind, so I made the retreat… to Sega World! I retreated all right! What a school excursion that was. Yeah baby. So, this story’s dedicated to all of you who are too young, or were too far away to have ever got there.
